Radio 1 – 1 Million Hours launched on December 1 2015. I managed the website for the three weeks of the launch campaign and also managed the BBC Advice site, updating the Homepage and preparing Advice social media posts for Radio 1.
Content Producer, BBC Radio Projects, Radio and Music Multiplatform, December 2015
- Managed 1 Million Hours website for the three weeks of the initial launch campaign – updating content, posting clips and suggesting posts to Radio 1 and 1 Xtra social media producers
- By the end of the first three week on-air and social push, over 100,000 hours had been pledged.
- Updated BBC Advice Homepage and prepared social plan for December 2015.
1 Million Hours Social
Instant, personalised thank-you video messages were sent to selected Twitter accounts. These featured known skits from Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw (below), 1 Xtra’s Twin B and Yasmin Evans and Scott Mills.
These were produced using native video social platform Echomany. There was great user engagmement – every personalised Tweet was either re-tweeted or favourited. Other brands have used this too, including Sherlock.
1 Million Hours Social Promotion
Getting up to 100,000 hours before Christmas was helped by the likes of The Vamps, James Bay and Kurupt FM to mention just a few all coming into the studios to say thank you to volunteers. These were clipped up and shared across the social platforms and also featured on the BBC’s homepage.
BBC Advice Homepage and Social
Each week, I prepared social posts in line with what Radio 1’s Surgery was discussing. However, the last Thursday before Christmas, we tied in with Scott Mills’ Relationship Transfer Day. Tying in with this high profile on-air and social event produced some very popular posts.
